Only Begotten Daughter by James Morrow

What can I say about a book from the man who brought us Towing Jehovah and This Is The Way The World Ends? Well, believe it or not, this one's funnier. The heroine is a test tube baby conceived from the sole genome of a Jewish male, gestated in an artificial womb, and given birth to when the glass bell-jar that she's been grown in accidentally falls to the floor and breaks to pieces. She is the infeminate (yes, I made that up) conception. At 5 she's walking on the ocean floor and her best friend is a lobster...and it just gets better from there.

It is irreverent, satirical, insightful and just a little spiritually scary. Everything we've come to love about James Morrow. I recommend this one, especially if you're not terribly steeped in righteousness and can enjoy the poke-in-the-ribs this one gives to Judeo-Christianity. Blasphemous? Maybe. Hysterical? Definitely!
